…DT Jimmy Staten from Middle Tennessee State.  He comes from a small program, so there are legitimate concerns about whether he can show up versus NFL-level competition, but on the plus side he appears to have the size and quickness to play both 3-tech DT and 5-tech DE.

Clinton McDonald’s 3-tech DT spot on the nickel rush line and Red Bryant’s 5-tech DE on early downs are both up for grabs this preseason and there are no clear favorites to fill those vacancies just yet, but for now Staten seems to project as a developmental swing backup/rotational d-lineman/special teamer.
