The first game was Thursday...California Redwoods vs the Las Vegas Locomotives (locomotives? wtf)

Who else caught it? What did y'all think?

I watched part of it. It was football, but minor league football. I'd equate it to AAA or high AA in baseball.

(I thought that after the M's season was over, I wasn't going to have to hear the annoying Dave Sims until April. Au contraire ... )

The NFL needs some kind of minor league, and this could be it. Who knows. The AFL has to many finacial issues currently to be a constant viable source of after college talent. I would really like to see Teams buy UFL teams as extended practice squads. much like minor league baseball. but have it much smaller. for example each division owning a UFL team. This would really be useful if we expand the NFL season to more games. I know the owners are not happy about the idea of a bigger roster with more guys to pay. This might be an alternative. Especially if the UFL can show a profit, as well as a market.

I caught some of the game. It was entertaining because it was football. Not supertalented but football. People need to realize that it is a minor league. It never will be as good as the NFL. It isn't meant to be. That is where the XFL failed. They build it up to be better than NFL and fans expected much more. UFL is saying right away that they plan on being a minor league football league. I hope it works and I hope that it is here to stay. I can never see myself becoming a huge fan or even root for one particular team but if there is nothing else on tv, I'll watch it

I completely agree Matt. I said the exact same thing when I was talking with a few buddies who were saying that the UFL was going to fold right away. I actually think that they could have some staying power because the commish is damn smart and knows that he cannot compete with the giant that is the NFL, so he is outright telling everyone that he isn't competeing with the NFL, but that the UFL is a compliment to them. That was the single smartest move anyone could have made.

I was entertained, was really hoping to see how mini-Tru was going to play but I didn't see him out there...just on the sidelines a half dozen times. I'll be watching it again this next game.

I hope that they do well enough to stay a float and people realize that they can be a legitimate stepping stone to/from the NFL, so as more kids don't get drafted or hit the waivers, they can go back into the UFL in hopes to regain some cred. Hell, maybe if the UFL can prove that then the NFL will actually invest in the league so it would become an official minorleague....would be awesome in my book.

I also think all the behind the scenes access and quick player interviews is a pretty awesome touch...could have potential there.

Except those were the two most dead locker rooms at halftime that I have ever seen...everyone just sitting on the benches in neat little rows looking all polite...is anyone going to fired up at all???...please???
