So besides being a massive 'Hawk fan, I do have things other than football on my brain...as hard as that is to believe.

One of my major hobbies/love/whatever is movies...love love love film. I've always wanted to grow up to be an artist or a director and am actually still working towards that.

ANYWHO...with ComiCon going on right now and all the new unveilings of new movies and never before seen footage, what movies are on your guys' lists of must see????

As for me:

I cannot wait for District 9, love what I'm hearing about it. It actually got a standing ovation at ComiCon which hasn't happened in recent memory.

I'm also psyched for the movie 9. I'm actually an animator...or animator in progress, whatever you want to call me so I'm always watching for new animated films and '9' has me jazzed. I like how it's more mature content and actually dark. Nice to see animation that isn't 90% kid oriented

also add in The Hurt Locker, Avatar, Thirst (Director of OldBoy, one of my favorite movies of all time. Great Korean movie, check it out!), and of course Inglourious Basterds...looks epic

Also guys I just saw this awesome indie film called Moon starring Sam Rockwell. Tt isn't getting very many showings around the nation, since it's such a small film which is very sad. However the Regal over by the Alderwood Mall does have the film for a limited time and it is absolutely awesome.

If you want a damn good movie that isn't a standard summer blockbuster without a soul....then go see this. It was a billion times better than Transformers 2 and Terminator Salvation.

I was going to post the synopsis but it gives away too much...so I'll post part of it:

"It is the near future. Astronaut Sam Bell is living on the far side of the moon, completing a three-year contract with Lunar Industries to mine Earth’s primary source of energy, Helium-3. It is a lonely job, made harder by a broken satellite that allows no live communications home. Taped messages are all Sam can send and receive.

Thankfully, his time on the moon is nearly over, and Sam will be reunited with his wife, Tess, and their three-year-old daughter, Eve, in only a few short weeks. Finally, he will leave the isolation of “Sarang,” the moon base that has been his home for so long, and he will finally have someone to talk to beyond “Gerty,” the base’s well-intentioned, but rather uncomplicated computer.

Suddenly, Sam’s health starts to deteriorate. Painful headaches, hallucinations and a lack of focus lead to an almost fatal accident on a routine drive on the moon in a lunar rover. While recuperating back at the base (with no memory of how he got there)"
he decides to investigate the crash and finds a body indie of the lunar rover.....aaaannnnddddddd I won't say anything more

District 9 looks really good to me too. Also looking forward to Funny People, because I loved Adam Sandler growing up, so now that he and Seth Rogen are teaming up I'm pumped. I'm going to see Hurt Locker today. Heard great things.

Sweet man, lemme know what you think. I'll be seeing it this weekend.

and Funny People does look pretty good...was always a Sandler fan growing up too...dunno how many times I watched Gilmore. I even like Punch Drunk Love...that movie gets a lot of hate but I think it's pretty awesome. I do like that it's darker humor though.

Holy crap, thanks for the Tron preview! I loved that movie growing up (and own the dvd), but I didn't really know what to expect out of a sequal, so I was keeping me expectations low. But that preview just shot them through the roof! I'm definitely seeing that one in 3D.

As far as upcoming movies, I'm most excited for Tron (now that I've seen that preview), Where the Wild Things Are, and 9. I'm kind of getting excited for District 9 the more I see the previews.

Also I like Anime, and love all of Hayao Miyazaki's films, so even though it looks like his strangest one yet, I'm looking forward to seeing Ponyo, although I have no idea what to expect.

I've never heard of Moon, but it sounds like a really cool movie. I probably won't make it to see it in theaters, but I'll be renting it as soon as it comes to dvd for sure.

While I don't share your fanhood of anime, I am looking forward to District 9 as well. Same with Funny People. I doubt I see either in theaters, as I have just run into a shortage of $$, (my girlfriends school loan got denied) I will for sure be checking out these movies when they come out on blueray. Moon actually sounds really good too. I will have to rent that one too.

What are your guys top 5 movies:
Of all time
80's 90's 00's
Cult movies
And one movie that if you were on a deserted island and could only watch one movie over and over again.

I am not even sure what my answers are yet. I know Godfather 1 and 2 make there way onto the all time list and 2 is in the running for deserted island. One crazy summer is definitly on the 80's list. I am going to think about it for a day or so and then post back my lists.

The Hurt Locker was definitely great...I for sure 2nd that recommendation. It's quite awesome 1) Have an Iraq war movie that isn't political and 2) Have a war movie that isn't the standard having lots of soldiers and guns and shoot each other. While I still love those movies...it's refreshing to have another take on war and the Bombsquad is definitely a doozy

That is definitely a tough tough question...I'll have to get back on this one too...

just throwing a few out there:

Cult movies...I'm a big Evil Dead/Army of Darkness fan

Foreign movies... Let The Right One In and OldBoy and City of God

War movie...Thin Red Line

Just thought of a few answers so I will throw em out there
Cult: Boone Dock Saints, Lock Stock and two Smoking Barrells, The Big Lebowski, and of course Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.

I forgot about War movies. A few of my favorites are Das Boot, I am forgetting the name but the WW1 flick with the older Douglas was pretty good, The Best Years of our Lives, and Jarhead. I too like the shoot em ups like Saving Private Ryan but sometimes non action flicks like The Best years of our Lives can be better.

I am also a huge movie buff! I am really looking forward to Assasin. I saw the preview on the net the other day! It looked darn good. I know this is dorky but I loved GI Joe as a kid so i am looking forward to GI Joe the movie. I am getting sick of the remakes that have been comming out of hollywood in the past few years. I hope more creative stuff starts comming out. I am not a big horror fan. at least not current horror. There is to much carnage and not enough suspence to them any more. I actually miss the 80's flicks. The movies now lack a good plot. they are to dependant on special effects. But the special effects freaking rock now a days! I guess I am a little hypocritical on that one right now.

Well if your a dork, I am a dork because they have done nothing but remake my favorite childhood cartoons into movies lately. First comes Transformers. Then GI JOE. If your a real dork like me your holding on to hope that they redo my third favorite childhood cartoon....captin planet.

I also don't get the lack of creativity in hollywood lately. We really can't do better than a 4th die hard? Are there no new comic books around these days? It seems like every action movie is just some recycled idea from the 50's or 60's. X men, Superman, Spiderman, Tansformers, GIJOE, The Hulk, lets try and be creative here. Although I too am hypocritical because I saw all those movies but did not go and see Watchmen an origanal idea for once.

Ninja Assassin looks awesome for sure. They showed a screening of it during Comic Con that was hush hush, the film guys aren't even allowed to talk about it but they're all saying that it is pretty damn awesome. Bloody and awesome.

and speaking of GI Joe...I was a HUGE fan as a kid (I'm 23 now)...huge huge fan growing up but I cannot bring myself to see this movie for many reasons...not only for destroying the Joes as I know them...but also because of this viral video they were sending out to get people excited for it.

Something about me, but I am working towards being an animator so certain things bug me.....aaaannnnndddd welll.....check this out....
