News and Notes – Tuesday, March 5

Football is slowly regaining momentum again. Here’s a few recent Seahawk notes:

  • Marshawn Lynch was successfully re-signed by the Seahawks last evening. Lynch’s four-year contract is worth $31 million, with $18 million in guarantees. He will be 29 years old at the end of his contract (that is, if he makes it that far).
  • Leroy Hill’s charge for marijuana possession has been dropped as of today. Hill and his girlfriend, who were both arrested and charged with drug possession last week in Atlanta, apparently cleared drug tests after being booked into jail. Makes me wonder what really happened.
  • The deadline for NFL teams to use their franchise tag (1PM this afternoon) has passed, with the Seahawks opting not to apply the tag to David Hawthorne or Red Bryant. Many other to-be free agents around the league were not tagged as well. Several notable players that were not tagged include Mario Williams, Matt Flynn, Vincent Jackson, Reggie Wayne, and Marques Colton. Hmm…

Free agency is right around the corner ladies and gentlemen. I am excited to see what Pete Carroll and John Schneider have planned once the free agent signing period opens March 13. Will they pursue Peyton Manning, if and when he is cut? What about Matt Flynn? How much will they be willing to offer for Mario Williams?

Your thoughts on free agency/draft?
