Open Thread – Day 2, NFL Draft 2011

With Day 1 of the 2011 NFL Draft in the books, let Day 2 begin! Let’s see if the Seahawks pull any more surprises!

Note: 7 min. for each team in round 2.  5 min. for each team in round 3.

Updates throughout the afternoon.

3:02 — Commissioner Goodell is “welcomed” by the crowd. New England is on the clock. Watch for a trade?

3:10 — New England selects Ras-I Dowling (CB, Virginia). High-risk/high-reward, but New England can afford taking risks with 3 picks in the 2nd round.

3:15 — Bills select Aaron Williams (CB, Texas). Yikes, it’s the start of a run on CB’s, which is a position we need!

3:19 — Andy Dalton (QB, TCU) is off the board, to the Bengals. That’s 1 QB off the board out of 3. All the guys from our positions of need are getting picked..

3:24 — Whoa, first trade of the day to the 49′ers from the Broncos. Colin Kaepernick (QB, Nevada) to the Niners! The only QB left for us to take in round 2 would probably be Ryan Mallett.

3:28 — Jabaal Sheard (DE, Pitt) to Cleveland. Solid pick by Holmgren and their front office.

3:33 — Ryan Williams (RB, Virginia Tech) goes to Arizona. They now have a three headed monster of Williams, Wells, and Hightower on their roster.

3:40 — Tennessee gets Akeem Ayers (LB, UCLA). I’m surprised DaQuan Bowers continues to tumble down the draft.

3:46 — Bruce Carter (LB, UNC) to Dallas. A potential steal right here.

3:48 — Jarvis Jenkins (DT, Clemson) goes to the Redskins. Who knew, he would be selected before his teammate DaQuan Bowers!

3:52 — Brooks Reed (LB/DE, Arizona) to the Texans. Another pass rusher!? I think they need a CB, not another DE/LB.

*Bad News: 8th circuit court issued a ruling that could shut down the league again next week, even though NFL doors just opened this morning. THIS IS NOT GOOD!!*

3:57 — Minnesota gets Kyle Rudolph (TE, Notre Dame). They have a formidable pair at TE now, with Rudolph and Shiancoe.

4:04 — Speedy little Titus Young (WR, Boise State) to the Lions. Is it just me, or do the Lions look like they’re going to be really good in a few years?

4:11 — Denver has two picks in a row (45 & 46). They select Rahim Moore (FS, UCLA) and Orlando Franklin (T/G, Miami). I considered Franklin a potential second round option for the Seahawks, until we selected Carpenter last night.

4:23 — Lance Kendricks (TE, Wisconsin) to the Rams. I’m really surprised they did not go WR here. The Raiders are up, shall we see Bowers or some other crazy pick here?

4:26 — Stefen Wisniewski (G, Penn. State) to Raiders. The Raiders are apparently trying to trade into the second round again, watch for this!

4:27 — Trade: Redskins to Colts

4:31 — Ben Ijalana to the Colts.

8 more picks until the Seahawks are on the clock!! Predictions?

4:35 — Marcus Gilchrist to the Chargers. Never heard of him before.

4:39 — DaQuan Bowers finally goes to the Buccaneers. He’s dropped 50 spots, from potential #1 overall pick to #51 overall!! Crazy stuff

4:45 — Marvin Austin to the Giants, Stephen Paea to the Bears, Jaiquawn Jarrett to the Eagles

We’re almost on the clock, I’m stoked!!!

5:00 — Rodney Hudson to the Chiefs, Shane Vereen to the Patriots

We’re up, we’re up! Predictions, anyone? Jurrell Casey? Leonard Hankerson? RYAN MALLET?

Never mind, we traded the pick to the Lions    —   57th, 157th, 209th picks to Detroit —- 75th, 107th, 154th, and 205th picks to Seattle

Update on Seattle’s remaining picks: We now have — 1 3rd round, 2 4th round, 2 5th round, 1 6th round, and 2 7th round picks.

Fellow writer Mike Parker will be taking over on the blog.
