Seahawks Reached Out to Dungy

This probably won’t stop the stream of Rooney Rule-related criticism pouring on from naysayers, but Mike Sando has just reported that the Seahawks reached out to former Colts head coach Tony Dungy to fill their open role of team president.

In the write-up, Sando quotes John Wooten, chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance in charge of minority hiring processes in the NFL, as saying the following:

“They called Tony about three weeks ago to see if he would seriously consider becoming their president,” said Wooten. “He told them he wanted to pray and sleep on it but the next day he called them back and said he wanted to stick with everything he was doing now. He would have been the guy, I believe, if he had wanted to do it.”

There were several questions posed on the blog last month about the GM spot, and Dungy’s name was brought up as one of them. (You’ll have to dig to fnd it, I have to cut this short.)

Like I said, this probably won’t be enough to silence the naysayers and criticism is sure to keep flowing, but I found this interesting none the less.

Either way, who would’ve ever thought the Seahawks would be in the national sporting news this much over the course of one week?
