The NFL today will honor Olindo Mare for the “NFC Special Teams Player of the Week” for his solid game against the Cardinals. Here is a quote from the article below:
“The veteran kicker actually kicked 10 field goals in the game. One was blocked, but nullified because the blocker – the Cardinals’ Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie – was offside. Three other kicks were erased by penalties against the Seahawks, including back-to-back holding calls that forced Mare to hit from 31, 41 and finally 51 yards. Another kick didn’t count when the Seahawks accepted an offside penalty because it gave them a first down.”
“Mare also extended his club record for consecutive field goals to 30 on Sunday.”
Olindo is not the only Seahawk player to be honored for this title. Back in week 3, Leon Washington was selected after returning kickoffs 101 and 99 yards for touchdowns in the Seahawks’ win over the Chargers.
Special teams play has really given this team a spark this year. If it wasn’t for special teams, I am not sure if we would have a 4-2 record.
