Mike Florio with PFT.com, just posted a video segment regarding the NFC West. I tend to agree with Mike on this one. The Cardinals have lost some key roster spots the past few months and may not be the tough team to beat in the NFC West anymore. The Rams are still in rebuild mode and probably will be at that spot for the next 4-5 years. The 49ers look great on paper but without a great QB, they will still be the same ole 49ers. They might post a record of 8-8 or 9-7 at best this next year. The Hawks have the only veteran QB in the whole NFC West and potential new starters like Brandon Marshall could help the team out. Bottom line: The NFC West is completely wide open this next year. One of the teams will host a Wildcard home playoff game during the playoffs.

Go Hawks!!!!!!!

With Pete Carroll at the helm, I believe anything is possible. For once though, I'm not going in expecting Seattle to win the NFC West. That way if we pull an upset it will be even nicer.

I will say that IF (And at this stage I would say it's a big IF) we get Brandon Marshall, and then use one of our draft picks on a Left Tackle, I think we could definitely be a threat (At least on offense). If we miss out on Marshall and use one of our picks on Jimmy Clausen, I can't help but think we may have to suffer another bad year before we can get back to dominance. (I'm not saying I'm against drafting Clausen, just pointing out that he probably won't have an immediate impact)

I'll admit that I'm not exactly the biggest Florio fan, but he did mention something interesting in regards to the Hawks having a "runaround" option on how to get Marshall.

Denver has been trying to push for getting our #6 pick and they're doing it in a way that is making it sound weaselly of them, not just a large decision for us to be considering. The runaround scenario that Florio mentioned on PFT was that we go and talk to one of the teams who are lower down in the draft, offer them our #14 pick to have them sign Marshall and give Denver their sub-#14 pick, and we keep our #6 pick and get Marshall anyway.

I am virtually certain the Hawks could trade #14 for BM. They are wisely holding out for #40 (probably with something/someone else packaged in).

I personally think the Rams will be in rebuilding mode for longer than 4-5 years. None of their first round picks have panned out since Steven Jackson, and these players they have viewed as building blocks have become major disappoitments. Alex Barron, Tye Hill (mega bust), Adam Carriker (bust), Jake Long and Jason Smith were all pretty good picks on paper at the time but they are liabilities now. I mean Long was supposed to be better than Mario Williams and has put up numbers comparable to Lawrence Jackson despite being a full time starter since day 1, unlike Jackson. Smith also has never played in the three point stance and has been prehaps the worst tackle taken in 2009 and has proven to be very injury prone.

Even if they do the right thing and draft a QB in this draft I think the lack of supporting talent will cause him to bust. It happened to QBs like David Carr and the Texans took him in similar conditions as the Rams are in now. Carr at least had Andre Johnson to work with, but the Rams have nothing what so ever to help their QBs out.

Package Branch, Hawthorne and next years third for Marshall.

Hawthorne will want to be a starter when his contract is up and will not resign with us, Branch is expendable and a third for a guy like Marshall is pretty good.

The only reason to consider paying the 14 is if some other team is confirmed to be offering 15-39. Even then, let's say someone is offering 26 for Marshall straight up, Seahawks could look to move back from 14 to 22, pick up a 3rd rounder and then pay the 22. Until another team says yes I will pay a 1st rounds and be ready to write a huge check for a guy who could remove himself from the field with additional off field antics, there is no need to talk 14th pick at all.

With everyone in Seattle having witnessed what happened to the offense when Hutch left, I'm surprised more people aren't pushing for an OT at 6 (or slide back and take OT) and Iupati (OG) at 14. If another stud OT falls to 40, I'd probably take all three for O-line.

Alex Gibbs will probably only be here for a few years before retiring or moving to another challenge, why not give him the most talented young unit he's ever had and let him work his magic to get them playing like veterans from year 1 and maybe giving the Hawks a foundation for years to come. Hasselback could extend his career behind a unit like that.

What? That won't give us something to trade Denver for Marshall? Why not sent next year's first rounder.

It would be nice if we could get Denver to agree to take Hawthorne and Branch, and swap first and second round picks with us for Marshall.

I wouldnt mind trading down from 6 to 10. We would still get one of the top 4 LT's, and have the 14th pick for S/WR/OG/DL. And in the second round, there's tons of talent at S, RB, OG--all positions of need.

Its a matter of Denver realizing no one is gonna give them a better deal.

Seriously, Hawthorne has shown enough potential and atleticism on tape in the regular season to retroactively justify being taken in the first round. So why isnt he worth a second round pick? I think he is. If I were Denver, I would covet him--he looks to be a fine ILB in a 3-4 as well as an MLB in a 4-3.

I think if we dangle Hawthorne as part of the trade, Denver would bite on it. They could definitly use the help since their D got exposed as the season wore on. Part of that was due to the play of their inside backers (excluding DJ Williams). They could upgrade their D while Josh McDaniels continues his brilliant strategy of alienating and trading away all his best players. If he keeps it up we may be able to get Ryan Clady for a second rounder!

Honestly I'd be more then happy to just give up our 6th pick for a proven young top 5 reciver let alone the best in the game.

I honestly dont think people understand what we would be getting, Clearly we would be adding a big-time wide reciever. A 6-foot-4, 230-pound athlete in his prime at 26 who has averaged 102 catches for 1,236 yards over the past three seasons. Also T.J. Houshmandzadeh calls Marshall the best receiver in the NFL, so it's fair to say he'd have his teammate's respect.

Yes I know he has major off season troubles. But look the Seahawks or whoever signs Marshall next will surely say they've done their homework and that he's a good man who has made some mistakes, but is maturing and ready to start fresh in a new environment. Besides he was very young back then.

Another thing is that, to be realistic the players that would most likley be there at 6 would probably be Clausen, Berry, Morgan, or maybe even a LT that the seahawks would like other then Okung. I dont want Clausen at 6 because I think we need to get a player that will have immediate impact with those big bucks, and we have more needs then berry at saftey and Not morgan.

My point is that I'm guessing Carroll figures he can help Marshall. And I'm certain he knows Marshall could help him as well, since winning football games requires having the most talented players possible. So we shall see...

The Hawks should offer Denver pick #40 and Hasselbeck for Marshall. The Broncos need a good backup quarterback and the Seahawks will strenghten their passing game with Wallace and the rookie.
How about

Give baltimore are 6th for gaither and get brandon marshall with are 14th and try to pick up as many picks as those teams would give us for those trades, we take care of are left tackle problem and we add a proven playmaker and it still gives us are 40th and so on to add some more players

Twelve,

I hope you are joking. Strengthen our passing game with Wallace and Teel?! Hasselbeck backing up Orton, thats a good one too.

You cant win without a great QB. The sooner the hawks get one the sooner they can return to being good. They already proved you can make it to the SB without a top WR if you run the right system and have a good line. QB and O-line first please. I wouldnt give up more than a 2nd rounder for Marshal. If, if we draft a rookie qb we are waiting at least a year before they are remotley effective if they even play. More than likely it's year 3 to see what they can really start to be. Marshal and TJ will have past their prime and we could have wasted an early 1st round pick to be a cornerstone to the team.
Hasslebeck???

I just want to remind everyone about something that I have been forgetting up till now about this whole Marshal thing. want us to think even more about the future and one thing about the future that we are forgetting is this. As it stands if we do not pick up a big FA this year we have already lost Burleson to a big contract. Contracts being an important part of compensatory picks. This would give us either a third or fourth round comp pick. If we trade for marshal or other players we do not loose this pick but if we pick them up through an offer sheet we do loose it. I know a 3rd or fourth is not all that great but it is something huge for a rebuilding team.

NFL Network just said Patriots just resigned Bodden.

If Bodden is no longer on the table, I'd like for us to keep our picks. Marshall can be had now with a trade or we wait another year and pick him up in FA. I don't see any other teams stepping up to sign Marshall. We are rebuilding and though I'd love to see Marshall with us NOW, I don't like giving the donkeys our 6th or 14th. Marshall is a headache for them and we all know it. They are doing the right thing by trying to push up the price.

Hawkdude,
your right, if we cant pick up a few players that are actually starting quility at positions of need through free agency, we can not use any top picks on Marshal. If we still need a starting DT, CB, S, RB, LT, future QB come draft day and we only have the 14th 40th and 101st picks in the first four rounds the best we could do is maybe 14 LT, 40 S, 101 RB. I feel that having Mccoy at #6 would present better value than Marshal this year because without a hole a DT and S Josh Wilson is not a very weak CB. He is actually I believe the second best CB from his draft class, maybe third, which is pretty good. The better our entire D is the better Wilson is. So our six and 40 if used on DT and S would basically fill out the D and it could be good. But with no picks that can be used on D we are looking pretty poor on that side of the Ball.

With this, if we can pick up Antonio Bryant (not great but good just like Burleson) in free agency we should make something work. Then pick up Charles Brown at 14 and Blount at 101 we have a young back that would take the place of Jones very well but would give us the aspect of a big back. This would not be a big improvement on Offense, but with the O-line shuffle that could happen it could be very effective.

On top of what I said in my last post, I feel that with this years crazy free agency with restrictions, we should wait for big splash next year when there will be a lot of RFAs from this year as UFAs next because there are a lot of guys who will not sign a contract that got a one year tender because they want free agency. Included in this group will very likely be Branden Marshal. If we woo him this year we can set up for a quick deal next. Even though it does not bring us instant satisfaction as Marshal would now, we keep all of our picks and can work it out the way schneider wants to. Through the draft.

Bryant wants about the same ammount of money as Marshall--$10 million a year. Why would we pay him that much? He drops almost as many passes as Nate Burleson, and isnt as civic-minded as Nate.

If we're gonna get a FA WR, its gotta be Marshall. I just hope we can get him for less than our 6th.
