Rumor: "Vick to Seattle"  E-mail

A few of you have emailed me the Yahoo Sports / National Football Post article saying that "multiple league sources" are "mentioning" that Mike Vick "could land in Seattle" to Matt Bowen. This is being put forth by Bowen as a rumor or a news item, but it simply isn't. Multiple league sources have mentioned that Seattle could go after Vick. Seattle could go after a trade for Braylon Edwards too, but they aren't going to.

I understand that a lot of fans want Michael Vick to become a member of their team. This includes Seahawk fans. That's fine. I personally do not, and can actually think of almost no less desirable teammate for the locker room that Ruskell has put together over the last four years. Vick is an excellent athlete who has a way of making things happen on the field that are simply fun to watch. He had one excellent year and a number of okay years. His last 32 games he started, he went 15-17 with a team that was not markedly worse than the one Matt Ryan saved last year. He has a lifetime QB rating of 75.7 and completion percentage of 53.8. The only time Matt Hasselbeck has ever been below either of those numbers was last year when he was injured.

There is absolutely no sensible reason for the Seahawks to go after Vick. I think he deserves a second chance, I hope he gets it, and I hope he does fine. More than that though, I hope he's not getting that second chance in South Alaska, and I can not think of a single reason why he would be.

(Sidenote: I stand by my argument that Mora and Knapp inherited Vick and would not seek him out, regardless of personal feelings for the man. He's not a west coast quarterback, period. Also, note that Vick's only stand out years were under Reeves, despite his team's best year coming under Mora.)

Mora said we weren't going to add him, they probably just see the MORA KNAPP THEY WERE THE COACHES and wanna be the first to report it. Seneca Wallace is a way better QB than Vick is, and he's also a lot cheaper than Vick would be.

I think wherever he goes it will be a circus, the media will be everywhere and it will be an issue, you can say it won't. but it will. People keep saying that he would be great in Seattle, but I don't think Tim Ruskell will even give it a thought and Mora seems content with what he has, or so he says. Don't get me wrong I am not a Vick "hater", I truely believe the guy deserves a second chance and I hope he does well.

The Hawks are thin at QB because first, Hass will be a question mark until the regular season starts and he proves himself again and secondly because shorty Wallace is awful. The only way Seneca can see who he's throwing to is to climb on Chris Spencer's shoulders. Vick would have both an O-Line and receivers here which he never had in Atlanta. Vick would be an asset in Seattle.

HawkOn - Seneca is one inch shorter than Vick, which is a fairly unimportant inch when all the linemen are 6'3" - 6'7".

When I hear people suggesting that Vick should come to Seattle I remember that Jim Mora's father labeled Michael Vick a "coach killer." Mora, the father, had to get that impression from somewhere (i.e. his son). With Mora inheriting this team, I cannot imagine he would desire that subversive influence in on his team.

I greatly appreciate Vick's talents, and hope that he has the opportunity to display them in the NFL. Further, I think that his consequence was more severe than other QBs may have received. Could you imagine Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or even Tony Romo (who currently maintains a less favorable public persona) receiving such a sentence? I could not. Tom Brady would receive a slap on the wrist!

I regress. I cannot imagine a scenario that is consistent with what Ruskell has done (i.e. emphasizing character) that brings Michael Vick to Seattle. But I absolutely wish him luck in resurrecting his career.

Note to Aaron Curry, Mike Sullivan, and Tim Ruskell, get it done today!

Modern NFL quarterbacks need to be 6'3" or taller to see over the line. Aside from the height argument, Seneca just does not get the job done. Holmey was on drugs when he drafted Wallace.
