It’s official: Jim Mora has named his longtime friend and former associate Greg Knapp as the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator for the 2009 season.
This hire isn’t a huge surprise, but judging by Knapp’s ties to Mora we should expect to see more former coaches from Atlanta and Tampa Bay being reunited in Seattle.
And even though Knapp didn’t do anything particularly stellar with the Raiders this year, keep in mind that he had a very limited number of weapons to work with. QB JaMarcus Russell has been an epic bust, and the receiving corps didn’t scare any defenses. RB Darren McFadden was plagued by injuries, but Knapp had a secret weapon in Justin Fargas, who finished the season with 853 rushing yards. Knapp also utilized TE Zach Miller pretty well, as he finished with 778 receiving yards.
So it seems that despite a weak record in Oakland and a lack of offensive weapons, Knapp knows how to use what he’s given. It’s encouraging to see this, because in Seattle he’s going to get a lot more talent to work with.
