First Half Wrap-up  E-mail

Well, the Seahawks sure do seem to have some problems coming out of the gate. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I know that I'm not very happy or comfortable with it. I'm shocked that they have not technically given up any points, because they have looked lazy and slow to react. Not exactly the "west coast defense" we were promised.

  • The Hawks could not stop rushes to the edge. They tackled terribly.
  • The last two drives were actually pretty decent, getting some pressure on Thigpen.
  • Wilson showed yet again that he is a very real blitz threat with, dare I say, excellent edge blitzing skills. Still a work in progress though. Wilson also did a terrific job of sniffing out screens including a great four-yard loss on Engram's 2nd down screen in the Chiefs last drive.
  • Kelly Jennings actually had a good first half with pretty solid coverage on most plays. He got the inside advantage on a pass in the end zone which he intercepted, but couldn't keep his feet in bounds for.
  • Cory Redding looked pretty good, Aaron Curry looked better. Thank goodness!

The Offense looked a bit better, though it took us getting to the second quarter for them to finally start clicking. Houshmandzadeh and Burleson looked great. Deion "The Game Plan's Built Around Me" Branch does not appear to have shown up. Butler saw no snaps in the first half.

  • Julius Jones looked pretty good, especially in the second quarter. He has 50 yards in 12 carries (4.2 ypc), including a bucket load of yards after first hit. Forsett has looked good spelling him, with just two carries but 9 yards.
  • Hasselbeck has looked great, but Houshmandzadeh has looked better - 5 catches, 60 yards and a TD. I like a Housh in the slot, too bad I don't like a Branch as our flanker!
  • The Hawks' two-minute offense looks very good so far in the preseason. Maybe we should run that all the time, yeah?
  • The offensive line looks fantastic today. This should make you feel very good, it makes me feel warm inside.
Special teams has been so so. Nice kickoffs from Mare, mostly, but two missed field goals. Succop (KC) also has two missed field goals. Maybe they narrowed the goal posts as a practical joke?
